Cargo Van Filled With Donations Heads to the RFDA » 2016-Apr-21

How much food is a van full of food!? At a time when hunger and food bank use are consistently rising in Thunder Bay, Staff, Board Members, Clients and their families at George Jeffrey Children’s Centre and Foundation have stepped up to give back to the community that supports them. In support of the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA), the staff have spent the last six weeks fundraising and donating their own money to reach their goal of filling the George Jeffrey Children’s Centre cargo van with food to help ease hunger for families throughout the city, some of whom may rely on George Jeffrey Children’s Centre services.

George Jeffrey’s hosted a variety of fundraising initiatives including themed dress down days, a 50/50 draw and a food drive to raise monetary fund’s and collect food donations.“The Centre’s mission of Enriching Children’s Lives and the RFDA’s mission Let No One Go Hungry in Our Midst was a good fit and an opportunity for us to give back to this community.” said Mary Anne Comuzzi Executive of Director George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation.

“I was somewhat surprised when I received the call because generally charities don’t support other charities directly,” said RFDA Executive Director Volker Kromm. The donation comes at the perfect time as the city has seen an influx of residents from outlying regions looking for better lives for themselves and their children.

George Jeffrey’s raised a total of $565.00 and three pallets of food, weighing in at 482.8 lbs and valued at $1205.00. An official presentation of the donation was made at George Jeffrey Children’s Centre Wednesday April 20th followed with the delivery of food to the RFDA.
