After a year full of change and learning how to pivot, we are happy to announce the success of the Best Western Plus Dryden Hotel & Conference Centre's Hometown Heroes Charity Golf Classic, raising more than $59,000 in support of George Jeffrey Children's Foundation.
This hybrid event saw more than 100 golfers hit the course on August 5th at Fort William Golf and Country Club for 18 holes of socially-distanced golf. After a day full of fun, contests and a great lunch, golfers grabbed their dinner to-go and joined us for a virtual presentation and awards event online where we heard moving stories of support, and gave out some great prizes!
"We are very excited to announce that at the close of our online auction on August 12, this event, together with the community, has raised $59,862 in support of George Jeffrey Children's Foundation," says Cindy Levanto-Kawahara, Executive Director at the Foundation. "Golfers enjoyed a wonderful day out on the golf course, followed by a virtual dinner, awards presentation, and online auction. It was a great way to safely celebrate in a year full of uncertainty."
As we continue to transition through a pandemic year, we are forever grateful to the support provided by our community.
""Of course this event would not have been possible without the generosity of our committed sponsors, golfers and volunteers," says Levanto-Kawahara. "Thank you for your incredible support!"
This event saw more than 30 corporate sponsors this year, all coming out to support the kids of our community and citing the importance of helping out the next generation of golfers.
"Best Western Plus Dryden Hotel & Conference Centre is proud to be the Title Sponsor for this very special fundraising event that supports the invaluable work done at the George Jeffrey Children's Centre for the benefit of families in the Thunder Bay community and throughout Northwestern Ontario," says Mike Readman, General Manager of Best Western Plus Dryden Hotel & Conference Centre."We support their mission of 'Enriching lives by delivering specialized rehabilitative and interprofessional services in client-centered environments' and share their vision of 'Empowered and inspired children, youth and families.'"
All funds raised through this event help to support the important programs and services provided by George Jeffrey Children's Centre. Together, we are enabling children to meet many of their day-to-day challenges through life-changing therapy and support.
